Description (abstract)

Flora Nordica is a research project with the aim to produce a scientifically based flora of the vascular plants in northern Europe. This flora should be a synthesis of previous research, indicating problems which should be considered in future research; it will comprise 15 volumes) and is written in English.

Flora Nordica treats all vascular plants (native or alien) wild-growing in Norden, i.e. Denmark, the Faroe Islands, Finland, Iceland, Norway (incl. Svalbard and Jan Mayen) and Sweden.

Botanists from all Nordic countries participate, both professionals and amateurs; among the many authors and reviewers are also several specialists from abroad.
Many institutions have made resources available for Flora Nordica. The major financial supporters have been The Bergius Foundation at the Swedish Royal Academy of Science (1987–2003) and Formas, the Swedish Research Council for Environment, Agricultural Sciences and Spatial Planning (2004–2007).

The Flora Nordica archives are at the Department of Phanerogamic Botany at the Swedish Museum of Natural History in Stockholm.
