Galilee in the Iron Age: Archaeology, Texts and History

Project: Research project

Project Details

Description (abstract)

The history of ancient Israel/Palestine is traditionally written on the basis of the Hebrew Bible and some extrabiblical texts. Today, writing the history of northern Israel/Palestine requires the use of both archaeological and textual sources and collaboration between archaeologists, biblical scholars, and historians of the Near East. The methodological scope of the project is both archaeological and historical. The work of the project is expected to result 1) in a new picture of the city culture and settlement pattern in Galilee continuing the Bronze Age urban tradition; and 2) in a refined view of the political and religious history of northern Israel/Palestine.
