Identification and population genetic analysis of stress-responsive genes in natural plant systems

Project: Research project

Project Details

Description (abstract)

The general aim was to discover the role of selection in the maintenance of adaptive variation. The project has utilized high-throughput sequencing and EST sequence analyses, and has resulted in the development of a number of potentially adaptive genetic markers. The key element was to conduct research in a new field, ecological genomics, which links patterns of genetic variation at functionally important loci to environmental factors affecting these patterns. The target species were the red alga Furcellaria lumbricalis and the aquatic weed Elodea canadensis.
