Description (abstract)
The consortium proposed here aims to forms a permanent research link between Finland and Germany, focusing on identifying and overcoming immunological barriers that impede current immunotherapeutic efforts. Research groups in both countries are working together to understand how tumors interact with the immune system and how cancer-targeting viruses can be used to counteract tumor immunosuppression. An advantage of using oncolytic viruses as tools is that they not only destroy tumor cells but also enhance tumor immunogenicity and induce anti-tumor immune responses.
