Modern Poets on Viking Poetry (a cultural translation project)

A cultural translation project forming part of an Arts and Humanities Research Council pilot cultural engagement scheme. Participating scholars provided texts, translations, annotations and commentaries of Old Norse medieval skaldic poetry to participating modern poets, who composed modern poetry on the basis of these poems. Participating scholars were available for consultation and discussion with the poets working from the texts and information that they had provided. The project produced an anthology of modern poetry responding to the medieval skaldic verse published by the Department of Anglo-Saxon, Norse and Celtic of the University of Cambridge.
