Pedogenic processes in cultivated soils of Finland

Project Details

This research interest contains currently small-scale activities aiming at documentation of morphological features and physical and chemical properties of Finnish agricultural soils. The research interest is conducive to increased understanding of the pedogenic processes active in our soils which are characterized by young age, cool temperatures, and wetness. Artificial drainage is one of the important man-made measures which has a substantial and irreversible influence on soil development. The practical aim is to be able to classify the soils according to the WRB system and Soil Taxonomy and improve the presentation of Finnish soils in the European Soil Database. The activities include also classification of soils of experimental fields as requested by fellow researchers publishing their results internationally.
