Description (abstract)

The main aim of the project is to recognize and understand the dynamics of innovativeness and innovation environments in rural areas. This aim will be overtaken by analyzing the relationships between economic development policy, innovation policy and rural development policy in Finnish rural regions. The study will be focused on actors that form two main lines of local innovation environments and development policies in rural areas: local and regional economic development organizations and local action groups.

The research project will be implemented by a consortium which consists of University of Helsinki Ruralia Institute, University of Tampere Research Unit for Urban and Regional Development Studies and University of Joensuu Centre for Regional Research. The project is funded by the Ministry of Employment and the Economy.
