Description (abstract)
This ERC-funded project (principal investigator: José Filipe Pereira da Silva) aims at offering a systematic study of late medieval theories of perception, focusing on the relation between the senses and intellect.
My particular task is to examine the dividing line between sensory and intellectual cognition by looking at the definition of the animal/human boundary in later medieval philosophy of mind. This involves the preparation of two major publications: (1) a monographic study of theories of animal rationality in the later Middle Ages and (2) a sourcebook on animal minds in medieval philosophy.
