Description (abstract)
I work as a senior researcher in the Hautaniemi Lab. The focus of the research group is to understand and find effective means to overcome drug resistance in cancers. Our approach is to use systems biology, i.e., integration of large and complex molecular & clinical data (big data) from cancer patients with computational methods and wet lab experiments, to identify efficient patient-specific therapeutic targets.
We are particularly interested in developing and applying machine learning based methods that enable integration of various types of molecular data (DNA, RNA, proteomics, etc.) to clinical information.
All our research is done in a cross-disciplinary and collaborative setting with oncologists, pathologists, biochemists and geneticians.
Our main focus is drug resistance in ovarian cancer. Hautaniemi Lab is the coordinator in the collaborative HERCULES project titled "Comprehensive characterization and effective combinatorial targeting of high-grade serous ovarian cancer via single-cell analysis". The project is funded by the European Union’s Horizon 2020 research and innovation programme. More info http://www.project-hercules.eu
Although I am participating in most of the projects in the lab my personal research interests are particularly related to genomics, tumor heterogeniuty, tumor evolution and biological interpretation of multi-omics analyses.
