The role of minor cartilage collagens in the molecular pathogenesis of chondrodysplasia

Project Details

The research interest was focused on the minor cartilage collagens IX and XI, especially on their globular domains. The goal was to characterize the high resolution structures of the globular domains found on human collagens IX and XI, and to investigate the structure-function relationship of these domains. The ultimate goal was to shed light on the participation of these proteins in the assembly and maintenance of functional cartilage ultrastructure and to gain an understanding of the molecular level changes leading to hereditary chondrodysplasias and osteoarthritis.
