Abstract

This chapter provides the overarching conclusions for the whole book. It highlights the main findings within the three themes of the book: the state of democracy; Elections, parties and candidates; Campaigning. Overall, the state of democracy is found to be good albeit that recent times have seen some turmoil. The conclusions of the second theme reveal that the period in scrutiny has been one of significant shifts regarding political cleavages and values among the electorate. For the final theme, the main conclusions are that digital campaigning has gradually become the norm, while the duality between parties and candidates of the Finnish electoral system still show.
