In this paper, we discuss the estimation of totals for population subgroups or domains under unequal probability sampling. We consider model-assisted, model-based and model-dependent estimation procedures. Models are used in all these methods, but the role of model is different. These three approaches also differ in how they use the sampling design (sampling weights, sampling design identifier variables) in the estimation.
