This paper aims to analyse multiple uses of the Italian preposition a by employing the theoretical principles and analytical tools offered by the studies of Cognitive Linguistic (theories of embodiment, image schemas, force dynamics). The main purpose of this article consists in examining the effectiveness of an explanatory approach based on cognitive linguistics in order to teach the different constructions of the Italian preposition a to Finnish-speaking students. For this reason, some uses of the Italian preposition under consideration will be compared with Finnish counterparts.
