Itäistä vaikutusta pohjoisilla rannoilla

The paper deals with the research in northern Finnish Lapland and coastal Finnmark, Norway, carried out by the Lapland Pioneers Project at the University of Helsinki, Finland. The excavations at the Early Mesolithic Sujala site in Utsjoki are described. The blade technology at Sujala is compared with that of the Butovo Culture in northwestern Russia and found to be identical with it. The paper then describes the blade assemblages from two coastal sites on the Varangerfjord, Fállegoahtesajeguolbba and Ovenfor Losssoa's Hus, identified by the authors as representing the same eastern pressure blade technology as Sujala and the Butovo Culture. It is thus clear that the northern coast of Norway received early postglacial pioneer settlers not only from the south-west along the Norwegian coast, but also from the south-east from Russia.
