Abstract

Occupational safety is a basis of well-being at work and job satisfaction is one indicator of well-being in the workplace. This paper reviews job satisfaction; it starts with a discussion of the concept and measurement of job satisfaction. This is followed by review of the relationships between job satisfaction and some organizational variables and theories that have attracted attention in the organizational literature. However, major attention is devoted to the role of job satisfaction in occupational safety management. The review of the safety and accident literature indicated a negative correlation between job satisfaction and occupational accidents, implying that the more satisfied employees tend to be, the less often they were involved in occupational accidents. There was ample evidence of job satisfaction also playing a mediating role between organizational behaviours, safety behaviour, and accident frequency relationships. © 2017 Nova Science Publishers, Inc.
