Abstract

The purpose of this paper is to analyze how open access is implemented in Finnish scholarly publication series in humanities and social sciences (HSS), and to assess their compliance with the requirements and recommendations outlined in Plan S initiative for open access publishing. We also pay specific attention to one of the Plan S criteria, providing an overview of the Directory of Open Access Journals’ (DOAJ) role in Finnish scientific publishing, particularly in HSS fields. The results show that 80 % of Finnish scholarly publication series in HSS disciplines enable immediate open access, but they often lack publicly available information that the funders supporting Plan S require from publication venues.
