Abstract

The essay's approach to Friederike Mayröcker's poetry is experiential and emotional, and this is evoked during translating her texts into Finnish. Mayröcker's language frequently makes use of metaphors signifying visually changing images and iconic similarities as well as shifts of views, which create intellectual and emotional pleasure according to Derrida's principle of différance. For the translator these polytropes produce problems which are investigated in the light of several poetic examples.
