Abstract

The Russian State Theatre in Helsinki (1868 - 1918) was submitted to the general drama censorhip of the Russian Empire. The local directors had their say in the play texts and permission for performance (esp. plays by Leonid Andreyev, M. Artsybashev et al.). Special attention was paid to defending the reputation of the Russian army officers who consisted the majority of the audience in the Alexander Theatre in Helsinki.
