Textual History of the Septuagint and the Principles of Critical Editing

Abstract

This paper approaches the problems of editing the Biblical text from the viewpoint
of a critical edition of the Septuagint of the historical books, especially
the Books of Samuel (i.e. 1 and 2 Kingdoms). This is however a textual area that
shows a concentration – perhaps the highest concentration among the various
parts of the Septuagint – of different textual problems, so that it should actually
give a good basis for a more general discussion of editorial problems. I have
chosen my examples from the Books of Samuel, which have been the focus of
my research for some time.
