Abstract
At the turn of the 19th century Jean
Sibelius (1865-1957) wrote several
Karelian inspired or otherwise patriotic
choral songs. Sibelius arranged many of
these songs for different choral
ensembles. In the following article I will
discuss the problems arising, when
preparing the critical edition of Sibelius’s
choral arrangements. I will focus
especially on the role of the original
version used as a reference source in the
editing of the arrangement.
