Abstract

The study explores value change in using Schwartz’s scale of human values as a point of departure for specifying the patterns of EU opinion among highly educated youth. The coverage of student opinion is based on focus group discussions with students in Finland, France and Bulgaria, which is complemented by more specific Finnish data on changes of human values over time. The opinions are analysed against the background of conceptions of democracy and citizenship, and are linked to current issues of EU democracy such as security, equality, freedom, and inclusion.
