Abstract

Autologous platelet rich plasma (PRP) is used for the treatment of tendon and ligament injuries in horses and to some extent also for the treatment of osteoarthritis. Its use aims to improve the quality of damaged tendon tissue and accelerate healing. Intra-articular use of PRP aims to control the inflammatory reaction in the joint and reduce the signs it causes, such as lameness. Research evidence on the efficacy of PRP in the treatment of both tendon and ligament injuries and osteoarthritis in horses is limited and partly controversial. There are several different methods for preparing PRP and they affect its composition. The optimal composition and route of administration of PRP has not been determinedtreated dogs.
