Abstract

Yakov Grot was active in Helsinki not only as Professor of Russian literature and history but also as translator and critic of Finnish and Scandinavian literature in the famous Russian journal Sovremennik. He was the first to introduce Kalevala and the poetry of J. L. Runeberg, among others, to Russian readers.
