The ReN on Social and Affective Factors in Home Language Maintenance and Development is a global network of scholars interested in the research, distribution and promotion of findings relating to home language maintenance and development. The ReN is a broad scope project comprising formal initiatives such as those facilitated within education systems and informal initiatives including community based programs. We recognise that there is currently little interaction between these two initiatives and that many families and communities find it difficult to access available information about home language maintenance. As a result, the ReN aims to more readily allow exchange between formal and informal initiatives, as well as encourage increased accessibility to resources and research among stakeholders. To this end, the ReN on Social and Affective Factors in Home Language Maintenance and Development has three main aims:
1) Research: The ReN aims to foster a stronger and more coherent body of research in the field of social and affective factors in home language maintenance and development by encouraging collaboration and exchange between scholars. 2) Dissemination: The ReN aims to distribute research findings about the importance of home language maintenance and development to stakeholders including Departments of Education, policy makers, childcare centres, schools and educational facilities, parents, minority language-speaking communities and the mainstream society. 3) Advocacy: The ReN recognises the importance of current and future research in the area of social and affective factors in home language maintenance and development. Therefore, we aim to lobby for the uptake of these findings and to provide expert advice to stakeholders.
