Digital Tantra

The study of digital media and religion is expanding at a fast pace. The so-far highlighted approaches, methods, and themes within Digital Religion are numerous and diverse - nevertheless, within this range, it is noticeable that existing studies have largely centered on certain world regions and religious traditions. While contemporary Tantra is massively renegotiated and increasingly transformed by digital media on many levels, in the ‘West’ such as in the USA and Europe as well as in South Asia such as in India and Nepal, studies on this theme (for any geographical area) are still very rare.
This workshop, co-organized and co-hosted by the University of Helsinki, Xenia Zeiler, and Harvard University, Sravana Borkataky- Varma, will discuss current work of researchers in the new field and is additionally intended to initiate an organized network.
