Literature on past and present traditional and small-scale societies reveal several “old ways” that humans have used for managing risks and preventing catastrophes on societal and family levels. We discuss how inter-cultural diversity, intra-cultural diversification, rules of thumb, repairability, and ergonomy feature prominently in the literature, as well as in the archaeological record. We also uncover how they have been replaced in the present Global Production Economy, and why we should give more attention to “the ways of the old” when entering the new unknown era known as the Anthropocene.Aikajakso | 22 maalisk. 2022 |
