Kuvaus
A number of rock art sites in Northern Fennoscandia depict curious scenes, where humans appear to be involved in sexually charged acts together with animals, usually elk or deer. These images have typically been written off as ‘bizarre’ or comical, or as being related to some kind of fertility magic, but they may hold important keys to deciphering some of the more mysterious aspects of the art. In the light of ethnographic and historical records from the northern Boreal zone, they can be related to animistic notions, where hunting was perceived as a sexual act and each kill involved seducing the prey.
