UniPID DocNet organizes its next annual academic get-together in Tvärminne Research Station on 27-28 September 2018. This will be a two day retreat, which includes both plenary and workshop sessions. The seminar aims at bringing together the doctoral candidate and supervisor members* of UniPID DocNet. This is to facilitate networking and the exchange of knowledge and experiences between the network members.

The topic of this years’ seminar is Doing diversity/interculturality/decoloniality in development research. The academic objective is to bring into development research and academic writing different forms of knowledge, sources and studies that go beyond the subjectivity of the researcher. The proposed approach goes beyond the most-consolidated practices of participatory methodologies where involvement of local participants is often reduced to the collection of factual data and phenomena without the recognition of deeper cultural and structural contexts in which that information is gathered. More profoundly, we aim to discuss the ethics of the research process; to engage participants with literature informing of epistemologies and ontologies of non-Western subjects; and to exchange ideas on methodologies and practices that can make alternative knowledges arise.
