Nimi Water brownification research in the Evo area Medianimi / kanava YouTube Mediatyyppi Verkko Kesto / pituus / koko 7 minutes Maa/Alue Suomi Julkaisupäivämäärä 02/09/2021 Kuvaus Freshwater lakes and rivers in the northern hemisphere are subject to water brownification or water browning. This phenomenon consists of a change of water color towards a more yellow-brown color and is mainly linked to an increase in dissolved organic matter (DOM) from the land. The causes of water brownification and its consequences on biodiversity are still murky. Why and how to investigate them?
Clarisse Blanchet, PhD student in Wetland Ecology at the University of Helsinki, researches the effects of water brownification in freshwater ecosystems of the Evo area, in southern Finland.
The Evo forests are home to a network of lakes, streams and wetlands. These shelter a rich biodiversity, including the Smooth Newt. Being sensitive to environmental alterations, these discrete amphibians are good bioindicators of the health of the ecosystem they live in.Tuottaja / kirjoittaja Maria Luna Tescari / Kentällä - In the field / Lammi Biological Station URL-osoite https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3z1ciw_UtHQ&t=197s Henkilöt Clarisse Blanchet
