Dr. Álvaro Fernández-Llamazares is an ethnobiologist interested in the contributions of Indigenous Peoples to global biodiversity conservation. He has 30 months of field-based ethnographic experience among Indigenous Peoples and local communities across much of the Global South, working in countries such as Bolivia, Costa Rica, Kenya and Madagascar. He has co-authored more than 80 scientific articles, and serves as an expert at the Intergovernmental Science-Policy Platform on Biodiversity and Ecosystem Services (IPBES).

He has worked for 7 years at the University of Helsinki (2016 - 2022), and he is currently based at the Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona (UAB) in Spain. His current e-mail address is: alvaro.fernandezllamazares@uab.cat.
