Tutkimuksen ja opetuksen kuvaus

My research focuses on regions experiencing population decline and the broader implications of demographic change for regional development. I am particularly interested in the built environment, housing, and the functioning of real estate markets in both urban and rural areas. My work examines, for example, how municipalities manage vacant and underused publicly owned buildings and how their policies and actions shape local housing markets. My doctoral dissertation demonstrated how local actors’ expectations shape the perceived opportunity spaces and future development paths of shrinking regions.

My other research interests include the regional impacts of digitalisation and the sustainability transition, multilocal living, and futures studies. Theoretically, my work draws on regional studies, real estate economics, evolutionary economic geography, and research on agency and sustainability transitions.

I primarily work on research and development projects. Alongside this work, I have supervised several bachelor’s and master’s theses. I welcome opportunities to supervise bachelor’s and master’s theses, as well as doctoral research, on topics aligned with my areas of expertise.
