Tutkimuksen ja opetuksen kuvaus

Olen vastuullinen tutkija Helsingin yliopiston Humanistisen tiedekunnan sukupuolentutkimuksessa.

Tutkin parhaillaan protolesbo-elämänhistoriaa ja kansallistunteen nousua 1920-30 -luvun Suomessa Suomen Kulttuurirahaston apurahalla 2019-2024.

Johdin akatemiahanketta "CoreKin - Sukulaisuuden syrjät" (2016-2020), jossa työskenteli  5 tutkijaa.

Tätä ennen tutkin testamentteja ja perintöjärjestelyjä seksuaalisesti marginalisoiduissa ryhmissä akatemiatutkijana (2014-2019), jolloin tein 2 isoa kv. kyselytutkimusta ja kymmeniä tutkimushaastatteluja.

Julkaisen queer-testamentteja ja perintöjärjestelyjä koskevan kirjan syksyllä 2020 (Palgrave MacMillan, kirjasopimus allekirjoitettu).

Teen yhteistytötä etenkin Ruotsissa, Norjassa, Puolassa ja Isossa-Britanniassa sukulaisuuden, oikeuden ja queer-identiteettien tutkijoiden kanssa.

Suomen Akatemian rahoittama viisivuotinen akatemiatutkijan tutkimuskausi “Testamentit ja perimys seksuaalisesti marginalisoiduissa ryhmissä” alkoi 1.9.2014 ja päättyi 31.8.2019.

Aloitin tähän tutkimusaiheeseen perehtymisen Ehrnroothin säätiön apurahalla 1.9.2013, ja jatkoin Koneen säätiön kokeneen tutkijan apurahalla 1.1.-31.8.2014. Olin Suomen Akatemian tutkijatohtorina 1.1.2010-31.12.2012 (Pedofiilin politiikka) ja Erhnroothin säätiön apurahatutkijana 1.9.-31.12.2013.

Olen aiemmin ollut tutkijatohtorina Suomen Akatemian Poliittisen ajattelun ja käsitemuutoksen huippyksikön tutkijatiimissä “Filosofian ja sukupuolen politiikka” (PPhiG) 2006-2010 ja Suomen Akatemian rahoittamassa Pornoakatemia-tutkimusprojektissa 2005-2007.

Teen laajaa yhteistyötä mm. Uppsalan, Södertörnin, Stavangerin, Umeån ja Varsovan yliopistojen queersukulaisuuden tutkijoiden kanssa. Olen asiantuntijajäsen useissa brittiläisissä ja pohjoismaisissa tutkimusverkostoissa sukulaisuuden, queer-teorian, sukupuolentutkimuksen, oikeus- ja yhteiskuntatieteen sekä oikeuden ja seksuaalisuuden aloilla.

Olen useiden kv. tutkimusseurojen jäsen (mm. Law, Culture and the Humanities/US). Olen Allegra Lab on Law and Anthropology ja AntroBlogin vakituinen kirjoittaja ja SQS- Suomen Queer-tutkimusseuran hallituksen varajäsen.

   9. Merits in teaching and pedagogical competence:

  I have developed university teaching that make the classrooms more dialogical and less hierarchical in organizing intensive courses (both PhD and MA level) on sexuality studies, often in English for international students with teachers with different profiles to benefit the students understandings of the studied field more broadly.

  Since 2005 (after my PhD degree) I have been teaching about 35 MA and PhD level courses and seminars on Queer Theory, Kinship, History of Decency, Feminist Theory, Queer Art and Research Ethics in Finnish Universities (Helsinki, Turku, Tampere, Jyväskylä, Joensuu, Pori).  As I teach on these topics also in Art Universities and Art Schools (such as Theatre Academy, Aalto University and The Academy of Fine Arts), I use a lot of visual materials in my lectures and presentations, such as paintings, documentaries, video clips and short films to discuss through them topics on sexuality and gender.

  Student response has always been excellent as the non-hierarchical and dialogical nature of my pedagogical approach has been highly appropriated among the students and colleagues. I have organized three symposiums on research ethics and risks in sensitive fields and published widely on critical pedagogy.

  Publishing Strategy Statement: I target both top international publishers in my field, such as Routledge, Gale, Palgrave MacMillan, Continuum but also alternative or marginalized journals such as Lambda Nordica, Journal of Homosexuality and SQS which all have published my texts as book chapters or articles. Late 2019, I will publish a book on Queer wills and Inheritance Arrangements by Palgrave MacMillan (contract signed).

  I am also a merited editorial scholar, with an active profile in social media. I publish mainly in the following study fields:
