Dr. Dorothée Cambou is an Associate Professor of Sustainability Science at the Faculty of Law, University of Helsinki. Her research examines how laws and policies shape resource governance, international relations and self-determination, as well as human rights. She focuses on ecological and social justice, with extensive experience on Indigenous rights, particularly those of the Sámi, and served as Chair of the Nordic Network for Sámi and Indigenous Peoples Law from 2019 to 2023.

Currently, her research critically interrogates the ‘green’ transition, asking who truly benefits, who bears the hidden costs, and how laws both frame justice and reproduce injustices. She examines the roles and responsibilities of states and corporate actors in shaping these dynamics, especially in the Arctic, and leads a team studying these issues as part of the Strategic Research Council–funded REBOUND project.

She teaches international law, focusing on sustainability, Indigenous peoples’ rights, and business and human rights.
