Tutkimuskohteet

The overarching goal of my research is to understand, on a fundamental level, the complex interplay among materials chemistry, atomic arrangement, and physical attributes for creating thin films and nanostructures in an atom-by-atom fahsion.

I seek to achieve this goal by combning novel vapor-based thin-film synthesis routes, in situ/real time diagnostics, ex situ nanoscale chemistry and structure probes, and deterministic/stochastic simulations.

My specific research interests include:

  • Non-invasive growth manipulation of ultra-thin metal layers on weakly-interacting surfaces
  • Fabrication of and defect engineering in hierachical metal-2D material heterostructures
  • Manipulation of atomic short-range order in compositionally complex systems (e.g., high-entropy alloys and compound semiconductors)

The technological relevance of my research includes materials and devices for energy saving and generation, catalytic and sensing platforms, and materials for infomration and communication technologies.
