Tutkimuksen ja opetuksen kuvaus

I am a Postdoctoral Researcher at the Faculty of Educational Sciences, University of Helsinki. Since my master's thesis I have specialized in analytic philosophy and cognitive science of religion. More recently I have began exploring the philosophy and psychology of meaning in life and especially the importance of meaningful beliefs.

I wrote my doctoral thesis in the field of philosophy of religion where I considered the philosophical and theological implications of cognitive science of religion. During my doctoral studies I was a member of Academy of Finland's Centre of Excellence in Reason and Religious Recognition. In 2024 I joined another project funded by Academy of Finland, Child in Time - Existential Resilience in Early Childhood (CiTe) at the Faculty of Educational Sciences.

I have published in several top journals in philosophy of religion such as Religious Studies, International Journal for Philosophy of Religion, and Neue Zeitschrift fur Systematische Theologie und Religionsphilosophie. I have also authored or co-authored chapters for the edited volumes The Origins of Religion (Luther-Agricola Society 2017), Evolutionary Debunking Arguments (Routledge 2023), Uskonto mielessä (“Religion in the Mind”, Gaudeamus University of Helsinki Press 2024) and Religion, learning, literacy: Theories and concepts for 21st century public education (Palgrave forthcoming). I have also written five chapters for a textbook series on Pentecostal theology (Aikamedia 2022–2024). I am the Communications Editor of the new journal AGATHEOS – European Journal for Philosophy of Religion.

Popularizing is a major part of my academic profile. I have worked as a freelance journalist for years and I still write on various topics for the Areiopagi e-magazine. My personal, philosophical memoir Poikani, elä vielä ensi talvi: Lyhyen elämän filosofia [Son, Live Through Another Winter: A Philosophy of a Short Life] (Otava 2024) of the life and death of our firstborn son Huugo popularizes philosophical discussions on procreation, disability, and grief, and their connection to religious belief.

I have received four one-year research grants and also the ASLA-Fulbright Grant for Junior Scholars that allows me to spend four months at the Rutgers Center for Philosophy of Religion (Rutgers University, New Jersey, USA) as a visiting scholar in 2025.
