Tutkimuksen ja opetuksen kuvaus

I currently work 60% of the time at the Department of Neurosurgery, Helsinki University Hospital, as a cerebrovascular neurosurgeon. I also work 40% of the time as a Chief Innovation Officer of the Helsinki University Hospital. My research focus is mostly on the epidemiology of cerebrovascular diseases, brain tumours and head traumas. In addition to conventional statistical approaches, I am also using artificial intelligence and machine learning approaches in a number of studies that aim to create algorithms detecting various lesions and conditions found in brain CT and MRI images. I supervise medical PhD students who focus either on epidemiological or AI/machine learening challenges.
