Yongjie Zhu is currently a postdoc researcher working with Aapo Hyvärinen at the Department of Computer Science.

Before that, he obtained a Ph.D. at the Faculty of Information Technology, University of Jyväskylä, Finland. During his Ph.D., he specifically focused on developing a computational method based on unsupervised learning for analyzing neuroimaging data (e.g.,  EEG and MEG) recorded during naturalistic stimuli (e.g., music listening and movie watching).

Before that, he obtained a master's degree and a bachelor's degree both in biomedical engineering from Dalian University of Technology, Dalian, China in 2016 and 2013, respectively.

His current work concentrates on unsupervised deep learning, including frameworks such as nonlinear ICA, causal discovery, and disentangled representations, applicable to analyze brain imaging data especially recorded during naturalistic stimuli. For more details, see his personal webpage.
