HEALTHGRAIN - Exploiting Bioactivity of European Cereal Grains for Improved Nutrition and Health Benefits

HEALTHGRAIN is the acronym for “Exploiting Bioactivity of European Cereal Grains for Improved Nutrition and Health Benefits”, which is an Integrated Project of the European Union's Sixth Framework Programme. It is coordinated by VTT and has 43 partners in 15 European countries. It aims to produce health promoting and safe cereal foods and ingredients of high eating quality.

Our research is focusing on bioactive compounds, i.e. plant sterols and their conjugates, folate, tocopherols and tocotrienols and betain. We study effects of genetic and environmental factors on the levels of the bioactive compounds and possibilities to optimize their concentrations by processing.
