Inflammatory airway diseases are common in general population and may affect during the whole life time. They cause remarkable suffering and costs. Current prediction, diagnostics, and treatment modalities of moderate to severe chronic rhinosinusitis (CRS), asthma and aspirin-exacerbated respiratory disease (AERD) are insufficient, or lack evidence based knowledge. There is thus a high need to study treatment and diagnostic methods of chronic inflammatory airway diseases to increase health. The aims of these randomized double-blind placebo-controlled trials are: (1) Does endoscopic sinus surgery reduce chronic rhinosinusitis symptoms and improve upper airway structure/function significantly?
(2) Does Aspirin desensitization reduce AERD symptoms and improve airway structure/function?
(3) Can we identify clinically relevant predictive markers for AERD and other uncontrolled and progressive forms of asthma-CRS?
The clinical significance of this study would be at developing cost-effective treatment and predictive markers that would facilitate diagnostics, prevention and management of the persistent CRS and AERD.
