This plan combines state-of-the-art expertise within the Finnish research environment to promote understanding of climate variability and change. This plan is based on dendrochronological (i.e. tree-ring based) techniques, materials and data. The project integrates Finnish dendroclimatic research teams and their laboratories and gathers up uniquely qualified consortium of palaeoclimate excellence. Compound data analyses will use sources of high-resolution climatic information from the high-latitude areas of continental Europe in Lapland: dendroclimatic carbon isotopes (δ13C), tree-ring growth rates, dendrochronologically dated ecotone records of plant occurrence/distribution, instrumental weather observations and archaeological records.
