Abstrakti
The purpose of this paper is to illuminate the usage of the absolute,
indeterminate genitive and determinate genitive forms in the Erzian language with the
help of literary sources, where possible. Stress will be placed on the notions of
definiteness vs. neutral deixis, [±]animate, proper vs. common noun and partitivity.
This treaties of the Erzian language has been based on text corpora material
available through the University of Helsinki General Linguistics Department server
and the Max-Planck-Institute in Leipzig. The materials include over 15 000 pages of
fiction, poetry and folk literature. A listing of these Erzian language materials can
also be found in “- 4” (Rueter 2000: 158-161).
