Kuvaus

There are several ice fishing competitions held in the Finnish countryside during winter, and the sport makes up much of the country’s cultural imagery, especially in smaller villages and rural areas. "A two kilo whitefish" originates from a YouTube video uploaded February 2008. In the video, a man is ice fishing and another one is filming and commenting. When the catch comes out from the hole, the man behind the camera starts screaming enthusiastically and keeps repeating "A two kilo whitefish" among other one liners. The lines created an online phenomenon that persists with a multitude of music and movie remixes, memetic images, and a soundboard. The original video has 1.7 million views and the most popular remix includes two by a Finnish DJ, which garnered around 300,000-700,000 views each. Since a big catch is rare in the traditional Finnish winter sport, the joy of the fishermen on the video is genuine.
