N2 - Responsible Communication contains eleven peer-reviewed articles in Finnish, Swedish and English. In these articles, the theme of responsible communication is approached from four different perspectives. First, articles in this volume address responsible communication taking into account the communication needs of various marginalised groups. The articles explore how the communicational needs of a minority of pupils are addressed in schools in Finland (Heittola & Henricson), how organizations develop accessible communication practices (Hyppönen), and how recipients of sign language communication evaluate the clarity of messages (Siltaloppi & Lindholm). Second, two articles address responsible communication as expert communication that is easy to comprehend. The necessity for comprehensibility drives terminological work as it facilitates communication among various societal actors. The scope and challenges of terminological work are illustrated by articles that investigate the equivalence of legal terms from different languages and justice systems (Kudashev, Koistinen, Mikhailov & Souma) and the development of terminological work from a historical perspective (Landqvist, Nissilä, Pilke & Sjöberg). Third, articles in the volume also investigate responsible communication from the perspective of the responsibility of economic activity. These articles study banks’ social media communication (Hirsto), state-owned enterprises’ reports on the effects of COVID-19 (Koskela & Enell-Nilsson), and stories on Finnish textile companies’ websites (Virsu, Sjöblom, Mäkelä & Onkila). Finally, the volume offers theoretical approaches to responsible communication. These are explored in articles on ethical and philosophical perspectives to organizational communication (Lehtonen), the role of informal communication in creating experiences of community (Leino), and adaptation communication as an area of climate communication (Perälä).
