This paper examines the problem of how immigration from low-
wage countries a®ect wage inequality and border control in a high-
wage country. There are four sectors in this country: the formal sector
in which workers search for jobs and ¯rms for employees; the informal
sector which produces non-traded goods; the housing sector which pro-
duces accommodation services for workers; and the government sector
which imposes border control and produces public services. Legal im-
migrants can participate in labor searching in the formal sector, but
illegal immigrants can work only in the informal sector. This paper
shows that the e®ect of immigration and the amount of illicit immi-
gration is sensitive to such parameters as government spending per
worker, workers' endowment of housing and a ¯rm's searching cost.
