Abstrakti

The essay details an aesthetics of collectivity emerging from the cinematography of Tamara Stepanyan’s observational documentary 𝙑𝙞𝙡𝙡𝙖𝙜𝙚 𝙤𝙛 𝙒𝙤𝙢𝙚𝙣 (2019). Draws critically on the ‘kollektiv’, a concept rooted in Russian Orthodox theology whereby personhood is achieved only through belonging to a group. It, too, speculate on the film’s political dimension in its use of collective social expressions in musical form.
