TiO2-Microchip combined to mass spectrometer for mimicking phase I metabolic reactions

    Kuvaus

    We have developed a microchip based system to mimic metabolic reactions of
    small organic compounds. The microchip, made of silicon, contains a titanium dioxide (TiO2) covered microreactor and an electrospray ionization (ESI) tip for direct mass spectrometric (MS) analysis. Phase I metabolic reactions were mimicked
    using on-chip photocatalytic TiO2-layer and an external UV-light where the TiO2-
    layer catalyzed chemical reactions. The reactions of test samples were quite similar
    with biochemical reactions induced by hepatocytes or cytochrome P enzymes. The
    microchip can be used for fast screening of phase I metabolic reactions and speed
    up the drug discovery.
