走向注重对话与伦理的跨文化交际教育: 来自两位“边缘”人物的启示

Abstrakti

This article is based on our dissatisfaction with one important aspect of current research and practice in intercultural communication education. Many supranational institutions such as the Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD), the Council of Europe and the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO), tend to treat intercultural communication exclusively as a monological phenomenon – i.e. the emphasis is on Self rather than on the hyphen between Self-Other. This makes any attempt to teach, “assess” and problematize interculturality limiting and limited in education. In this conceptual paper, calls for exploring “beyond the West”, “peripheral” perspectives, to enrich scholarship about the intercultural are taken into account. Basing our critical insights on an original combination of the work of Russian philosopher and literary critic M. Bakhtin (1981) and Confucian ethics (e.g. Yao, 2000; Huang, 2018), we review the meaning and importance of dialogicality and ethics in human relations. In our conclusion, we call for the systematic inclusion of dialogicality and ethics in rethinking interculturality.
