An overview of ecosystem service theory and practice

Beskrivning

The aim of this course was to provide a systematic and comprehensive understanding the ecosystem service concept, which has become pivotal in the current global sustainability agenda, representing a shared language for natural, social sciences and economics. The underlying logic is to support nature conservation without disconnecting it from sustainable development. The concept is being developed into a theoretical framework with several practical applications.
Nonetheless, relevant literature is far from converging towards a common understanding of ecosystem services, in theory and practice. Part of this plurality originates from mere confusion or misinterpretation of the concept, while part of it is genuine and deserves to be understood and embraced.
