Early Manchuria / Northern East Asia

Beskrivning

An international and interdisciplinary colloquium convened to discuss critical topics relating to the field of Early Northern East Asia, a region corresponding to geographical Manchuria that encompasses the present day Chinese Dongbei provinces, Russian Transbaikalia, the Korean peninsula and Japanese archipelago.
EM/NEA 2019 is hosted by the University of Helsinki where a long tradition of ethno-linguistic research into Northern East Asia has been maintained in conjunction with the areal paradigm of Altaic Studies. Against the context of ongoing geonationalist disputes in East Asia and the damaging influence of popular pseudohistories, EM/NEA aims to provide a critically objective forum in which to constructively review state of the field topics, exchange methodological approaches, and forge future research directions.
