The workshop addresses existing concerns in the Finnish research community regarding the lack of support mechanisms available to early career researchers across disciplines in Finland, the challenges they face, and the consequences they carry on their professional development and well-being. Through presentations and discussions, the workshop will address these issues with a focus on early career researchers in the humanities.The first part will consist of four lectures in which invited speakers will share experiences in their respective specialties and introduce early career researchers to useful strategies for networking, accessing, and building support mechanisms, and integrating in new working environments.
The second part of the event will consist of a question-and-answer style panel during which early career researchers will have the opportunity to address issues that were not addressed during the first part and to voice out the issues that are relevant to them in a safe space. By creating a respectful and open-minded atmosphere, we aim to understand the diversity of experiences of early career researchers and students in the current academic environment and encourage them to communicate their problems.
The overall objectives of the workshop are to promote a culture of knowledge sharing at national and international levels, as well as intergenerational solidarity and empathy for a healthier, more supportive, and more inclusive academia.
